Rhododendron has not bloomed

Question

Rhododendron has not bloomed in several years. Has grown but buds are brown and rotten when picked. What can be done to save this bush? The leaves are pretty healthy, though some have brown on them. I had one blossom this year. I live in southeastern Massachusetts. The plant is next to my home on the south side.
