Repotting a huge cycus palm to a shallow pot

Question

The stem is longer of my 15 years cycus and is in a drum.
Now i want to transfer it in a tub…
Question is how do i match it in proprtion to the lengths of the stem and tub.
Do i need to cut the leaves
Is it permissible to cut the stem from base?
