Q.Repairing tree damage
I have a large (18-20′) red leaf maple in my yard. While removing the ivy that was growing up it (done as needed) I discovered a large “wound” that had significant decay (like a dead tree on the ground) with slugs and insects under the dead bark. Most does not go very deep but some is as much as 1 inch into the tree.
How do I treat this to keep the tree alive? Or should I have it cut down before it falls on the house?
