Q.Recommendation on plants to use

Zone 85029 | royalan added on July 8, 2017 | Answered

I live in Phoenix, AZ and I would like to plant some type of shrub or plant in my front planters. They run along the front of the home. One is 23′ x 1′ and the other is 14.5′ x 1′. currently there are Agave plants in there which I am pulling out, they have overgrown and reproducing like crazy. I would like something that is easy to maintain, adds color to the front of my home, attracts Hummingbirds and/or Butterflies and can possibly add some shade to the front of the home. Focusing on the fact that the planters are only about a foot deep, I have been looking at all the plants in local nurseries and most grow out to 3 – 5 feet in circumference, which would push against the home or require me to groom it on a schedule. Do you have any options which would help me make a decision on what to plant?

You can also visit local garden centers and even look at landscaping in your area.
You can also contact your County Extension Office for a list of plants suited to your region.
