Question About Lillies

I live in the Buffalo, NY area. What am I to do with the seeds in the pods, plant them now – would the frost get to them ? Put them in the fridge till spring ? Let them sit till spring ? Start them in March / April inside ?

Usually the stems are removed before seed pods form. Growing daylilies from seed is not recommended unless you are hybridizing because the mound increases easily and can be divided for more plants. Growing from seed can take years to get flowers and may not be true to type.

Are the ones you have growing the orange, old fashioned variety? If so, they should come true from seed but those plants are usually prolific spreaders anyway. Any other type may not look the same, but it can be fun to see what you get. It may take three years to flower.
