Pruning Clematis

My Hagley hybrid Clematis has finished flowering and the leaves are all turning brown. Can I prune this now or should I wait till early spring? It is just that it sits outside my back door and is not pretty to look at at the moment.

Hold off pruning until early spring for most types or following bloom in others. This article may be helpful:
