Q.Pruning A Huckberry

Zone North Fort Myers, Florida 33917 | Anonymous added on February 6, 2022 | Answered

I bought a Huckberry mid December and it was about 2 foot tall. It only had about 8 buds on the sides to the top, no leaves but it had a good looking root. I kept it in a pot for about 3 weeks and than put it in the ground here in South Florida. About 4 inches down is where leaves are growing now. Do you think if I pruned half the leaves down from the top, more leaves would be forced to grow out from the lower sides? Thank you

The reference below says not to prune huckleberries because they grow slowly. Other references said to prune when dormant in winter only to remove dead, broken or odd branches (such as crossing). You can also shape them up a bit.
