Q.Potted trees in Canada

Anonymous added on June 4, 2015 | Answered

My wife and I have just moved to Montreal and have a rather unique garden situation. Without getting into the details, as a result of this situation we are looking to plant a small tree in a pot. Now we have found information on how to care for a tree in such an environment, we have not found a list of what trees might be best. Have you any information regarding this? Also, we would like to know of trees that have a chance of surviving the harsh winters in this part of the world. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

These articles should help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/special/containers/how-to-grow-container-trees.htm

Arborvitae is a common and good choice for containers. I would make sure that you choose a tree that can survive one growing zone lower than yours. Plants in containers experience weather more like zones one lower because they do not have as much protection from the cold for the roots as plants in the ground.
