Q.Pothos Growth – How To Control It

Zone 45176 | Anonymous added on December 24, 2025 | Answered

Hi… I have a pothos plant that I’ve grown from a cutting. I keep it on the kitchen windowsill and since potting it up about 6 months ago, it has really taken off. I LOVE it but I don’t know what to do with it. The roots on the vines are very aggressive. I found one that attached itself to the wooden windowsill and did some damage when I removed it. (ugh) Another wound its way into some crevices of a rock and had to be removed. Now I have all of the vines and roots propped up to keep that from happening but, it’s getting really large and long…what should I do to manage it..? Is there any way to keep the roots from damaging whatever they touch..? Thank you so much for any advice you can give me. I am a beginner and I really don’t know what I’m doing. Have a great morning!! 🙂

You can cut off the aerial roots that I suspect are part of the problem. You also can cut back the plant at any time and it will get bushier. You can compost the clippings, start new plants, or just toss them. You might consider a new location. The windowsill may be too small for such an exuberant grower. Here is more:
