Portabella Mushrooms

Question

When you say spread one inch of spores in the 4×4 growing tray is that one square inch or an inch deep across the whole tray. I know it may seem like a stupid question but new to growing mushrooms.

Sprinkle the spores in a layer one inch deep, then work the entire bed in.
