Q.Ponytail palm beaucarnea

Purchased ponytail Palm in Sam’s club yesterday. Read that it needs to be watered when relatively dry. However the plant had little rocks/stones on top and I would not know when it would need watering as the little stones cannot be moved. What is the solution?

These trees were never meant to survive for very long in this container. The only good way to do this is to soak the plant for half an hour in warm water then pry them off. You will want to repot into a new container that is only slightly bigger than the original.
