Pest Control – Little Ants

Question

I have little tiny (what I think are ants) at the bottom of my house plants. They come out when I water the plants and they are so small that you feel them crawling on your skin before you see them. They are always down at the bottom of the flower pot. Are these ants that I am experiencing? What do I do to get rid of them? I need an effective treatment before my husband throws me and the plants outside!!!
