Is perlite safe for lime-hating plants; for example, Rhododendrons?

Perlite can be used in planting mediums for Rhododendrons and Azaleas.

Some growers prefer to use composted bark or conifer needles to amend the soil.

Perlite is great to ensure good drainage.
