penstemon plant has died after a week

Question

I was wondering if you could give me some advice …
I purchased 4 penstemon plants and after a week they died …
I kept them in the conservatory as the weather was cold and blowy for a week and tried not to overwater them …
also I loosely tied them with garden string as the leaves were drooping into the compost …
I am tempted to buy some again
but would like some advice first

I imagine the time indoors did not help it. Plus the water probably didn't evaporate very quickly so you may have overwatered it.
