Q.Pear Trees for Food Plots

Anonymous added on March 23, 2014 | Answered

I’m thinking about planting several pear trees in an old pasture next to some woods to attract deer. The soil is fairly heavy clay but well drained. I’m not super concerned about getting good fruit and I don’t plan to use any insecticides. Deer are not as picky as humans. I’m looking for lowest maintenance, most hardy types (winters in Ohio valley are pretty mild but we do get occasinal near zero temps. What type of pear trees would you reccommend? Thanks.

I would recommend looking at the Flemish Beauty, Harrow, Lucious or Anjou varieties. They are very cold hardy and disease resistant.
