Q.Overwintering Tomato Roots

You suggested cutting back the tomato plants, pulling out the stem with all the roots and overwintering it. Then replanting in the spring to get an early start on tomatoes. Do you have more information on that? Have you really had a lot of success? I am interested in trying it.

Is this the article you saw below? There is information on overwintering the roots at the end of the article. I have never done it, but I researched it, and did not find any more information except that it may not be worth the trouble to overwinter tomatoes. (If that picture is your tomato roots, they should not be allowed to dry out.) Here is the article we have with instructions:
