Q.Non-Flowering Vine

Anonymous added on July 10, 2011 | Answered

I have a trumpet vine that while growing very tall every year, has never flowered. We are in sandy soil, but I compost regularly and add mulch. Is there anything I can do to get this beautiful vine to flower? We attract butterflies, hummingbirds, etc. (We are in the Haliburton, Ontario region. )

The nitrogen to phosphorus ratio may be off. The soil may have an abundance of nitrogen, which would result in nice, healthy green growth but little to no blooms. Without the right amount of phosphorus, it will not bloom well. Bone meal is a great way to add phosphorus.
