Q.Need To Remove Tiger Lily’s To Have Foundation Work Done In June
I have to have foundation work done on my house and my tiger lilly’s are right along the wall. Is it possible to save the bulbs for next year even if I have to lose the flowers this year, as it will probably take up to a week? If so what would be the best way to dig them up, store them, and then replant them. I’ve never done it before as they always just grow back every year, but it sounds like I can maybe even seperate some of them a spread them out.

Hello:
Thank you for sending us your gardening question.
Since it will take a week for foundation work, your lilies can be dug and loosely planted in containers till the work is finished and then replant them. You don't need to store them till next year.
This article tells how to dig them up and replant. You can cut the foliage back by half or more to make digging easier. Also see the question at the end about digging them up in summer.
