Q.Need Help Identifying This

Zone Florence, Oregon 97439 | karihappy added on April 15, 2021 | Answered

Could someone please help me identify what this is? Someone told me it was bamboo, but I’ve never seen any bamboo that looks like this. I would like to plant it, but not if it’s bamboo and will spread like crazy. I live on the Oregon Coast. Thank you for any help you might be able to provide.

It looks like Nandina domestica, whose common name is heavenly bamboo. And, no, it is not a bamboo. They tend to colonize, though, by seed and expanding roots.
