Q.My New Gardener Recommended To Remove This Tree To Prevent Damages To The Retaining Wall And Foundation. I’m Sad. I Don’t Want

to kill it. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do. This tree is here since I moved in the house 12 years ago. It never caused any problems and I love it. However since 4 years ago I removed a sick tree behind it. It grows much faster. My new gardener recommended to remove it.

I suggest trying to find out what type of windmill palm it is. There are dwarf varieties and yours may be as tall as it is going to get. Even so, they typically don't grow taller than 10 to 25 feet which would put it under the small tree designation (less than 30 feet), according to the factsheet below. They are considered good courtyard trees because of their compact growth. I haven't found any resource that says they have aggressive roots.
