leaf lettuce

My lettuce is growing straight up, becoming very narrow not full when first harvesting the leaves. How to make leaf lettuce become fuller at the bottom?

There are many types of lettuce plants and leafy greens with varying growing patterns.
As the plants grow the number of leaves added to the plant will make a fuller looking plant.
