Q.My Bird of Paradise Won’t Flower
Hi. I have a bird of paradise 3+ years old in my south facing garden. It has grown roof high. The leaves are big but no flowers. I have another in my backyard that is small and clumpy and flowers profusely. They both get morning sun and both are shaded by trees.
I didn’t expect it to grow so high. Thanks, Jen

It may have a lack of phosphorus. Since a little extra phosphorus will not hurt, I would give the plant some phosphorus, like bone meal to help encourage blooming. On the overgrown plant, prune out any dead or weak growth. For hard pruning cut back all branches. I would not cut it back by more than 1/3 a year. Here is an article that you may find helpful: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/bop/bird-of-paradise-pruning.htm
