Q.My 5+ Year Loropetalums Have No Leaves Inside Or At The Bottoms Of The Shrubs. Is Something Wrong With Them?
I’ve had these loropetalum shrubs for around 5 years. The insides are very bare with no leaves at all. Should these take a hard pruning down to help with filling them out? How far down should they be trimmed? What time of year should I prune these down? I’m in north Jacksonville, FL (zone 9 I think). Thank you, Amy

It may need fertilization as well as pruning. Prune after it flowers. Only remove about 25 percent of the shrub. Here is how:
