Q.Moon cactus

Hello, I have a moon cactus plant, recently purchased.
The top section was a vibrant orange colour, but now the orange coloured section has gone brown and seems to be dying off. I understand about overwatering etc, and have kept catus before, so I know what is required. However,if I carefully trim off the discloured section do you think the plant will take harm, or even die off.
I do wonder what the correct course of action is, and any advice would be welcome.
I have checked out info about it, but nothing really says what to do in this situation.
Many thanks,
Mick Moloney.

Could you send a picture? This sounds like the graft union is being rejected. This happens on occasion. If this is the case, then there is really nothing to be done. Graft union failure is somewhat common, and unavoidable. If you can send me a picture, then I would be more able to tell if this is the case.
