Q.meyer dwarf lemon tree

Zone Paso Robles Ca. 93446 | conleys02 added on November 13, 2016 | Answered

The tree is doing fine with new fruit. Now, off the main trunk there is a shoot (with thorns) but the leaves are 3-4X the original size. It almost looks like a sucker but it is growing at a fast rate. Is this normal? Should I top the new growth? Leave it alone? Any help is appreciated.

Thank you, ]
Dan.

You should probably remove the new shoot at the base. It sounds like it could be a mutant or "sport" that could have different characteristics than the ones you want, or it could be diseased.
