Q.Meyer Lemon Tree Thorns

Zone 77401 | STouchstone added on August 4, 2024 | Answered

I just read your article and it was helpful. I need to ask this: Will a branch with thorns still have lemons on it or if the branch has thorns, it wont grow lemons? Before the freeze, the tree produced a bunch of lemons. This year, it is just green and thorns and not even a baby lemon.

It doesn't have much to do with thorns, unless you are noticing growth from under the graft point. It will look very different than your original tree, and will not produce fruit of any quality. However, if this is your whole tree and they have always been there, then it could just need a rest. Unfortunately, your photos did not come through, so I will be unable to see the full situation.
