Q.Mermaid Succulent

Zone Concho, AZ 85924 | Anonymous added on November 19, 2022 | Answered

Greetings, I am wondering if you can help me understand what is going on with my mermaid succulent. It has a big, beautiful crest, and I’ve had it for about four years. I moved from CO to AZ and suddenly (I’m sure the move has nothing to do with it), it is sprouting leaves! It really freaks me out because, as I’ve said, I’ve had it for years and it’s never done anything like this. Do you know what the sprouts are and why they’re growing on three different places on my plant? I’ve looked online for “mermaid succulent growing sprouts”, but I haven’t been able to find any pictures of this happening to anyone else’s plant, and cannot find any articles. If you have any advice or information for me, I’d greatly appreciate it. One side note is at the beginning of summer I accidentally over-watered it, and it got a brown spot on one side, but I backed off the water and it looks very healthy. The sprouts themselves, are very sturdy and healthy. Thank you for taking time to read this.

Its growing some normal stems. The crested stem you already have is a mutation. Here is more:
