Q.Male Kiwi Fruit

Zone 2800 | bobbrian added on January 17, 2022 | Answered

I have five 4-year old female kiwis growing on a raised trellis/arbor. 3 males have died, one after the other, although planted in same soil/conditions – 2 metres from the females. Should I plant the new (4th) male under the same trellis, or much further away? Secondly, should I just let it “bush”, or should I train it up to a line? Thank you.

Generally, the issue is spacing. They need to be about 4.5 m apart, but within 15 m for pollination. It may be too close together to support growth in that spot.
