Q.Magnolia tree seed pods

Zone 99337 | Anonymous added on September 29, 2017 | Answered

My magnolia tree is about 10-12 yrs old. My husband found out a few years back that the more we “deep watered” the tree the faster it grew and the more foliage & flowers it produced, however, this year is the very first time it has produced seed pods, never knew or ever saw such a thing. My question is do I do anything with the pods or just let them mature and open to feed the birds? Silly question but it’s a strange phenomenon to see.

Yes, magnolia pods are interesting and beautiful! Birds do enjoy magnolia seeds so that is a good idea.
Some people use them to obtain seeds for planting to propagate the magnolia:

And some use the red seeds to make craft such as bracelets.
