Loquat tree’ s trunk hollow and l aves dropped. No fruit. What is the problem?

My loquat FRE has dropped all its leaves, no fruit production. We have had a very dry spell. I did water it. And finally just dug it up. The best snide the trunk it was hollow. Last year there was good production. What would you say was the problems!?
