Little, black, hard things on my Sago Palm

Question

What are those tiny black, hard things on this plant (like little black dots)? When we got home from vacation, they were on the plant, rug, window and walls in the area our plant is sitting. There are no other plants of any kind around it. From looking at pictures online, it does not look like a mealybug.

Perhaps they are scale insects. Try an insecticide to get rid of them.
