Japanese maples

Question

Hi,

I recently bought a house with a beautiful Japanese maple in the backyard. Recently, due to a huge miscommunication, my contractor chopped off a lot a lot of the tree! I was devastated when I came home and saw what he had done – I’ve attached a picture. Will this any of this regrow? And if so, is there anything I can do to help the process?
