Q.Japanese Maple
I purchased a mail order Japanese maple. I will plant it under a 25 year old pecan tree. It will be shaded but the hot, dry winds of Oklahoma (Oklahoma City) is what worries me. Do you have any suggestions other than send it back. I really love them.

You could try setting up a wind block for it for this year. Getting it to become established will be the hardest part, so if you can get it some extra protection this year while it establishes, this will help. Also, you will need to be very diligent with watering as the hot wind will dry it out even faster. After a year, it will be established and will have a much easier time dealing with the conditions.
