Q.Is this a hibiscus? (OR, a Tulipan?)

Zone Morelia, Mexico (possibly 10a?) | Anonymous added on June 4, 2020 | Answered

Hi. ‘Rather quickly …

I have a new apartment with three wonderful balconies here in Morelia, Mexico. (Think VERY, VERY WARM.)

I thought a hibiscus would do well on each (second story) balcony because they’re A.) Lovely; B.)They tolerate heat very, very well, and C.) I’d pick the flowers, dry them, and make tea, etc. (And I think they might flower year-round.)

So, in Mexico hibiscus are hard to find! I’ve tried. But I saw the plant in the photo today at a nursery. The one called “Hibiscus–or not.” The owner was busy or  I would have talked to him.

Here, though, I THINK there’s another, different, closely related plant called a Tulipan. (See the other photo, which I downloaded online, from … https://www.trekearth.com/gallery/North_America/Mexico/Gulf/Tabasco/Cunduacan/photo67106.htm)

So, can you tell, just by looking at the photo I took today, if that’s a hibiscus or not!?!? Or is it simply too difficult working from a photo?!?

Sincere thanks for your thoughts on this. I’m stymied. LOL

I believe these are both a Hibiscus! The tulipan has a different center.
