Q.Is it harmful to eat broccoli if it has bolted?

Zone southeastern ky | Pam Holsinger added on June 7, 2014 | Answered

A blind couple from church called and asked me to come check out their garden. They were told they couldn’t harvest the broccoli because it had bloomed. I have never grown any myself so I advised them to wait until I could find out for them. They are very good people but are taken advantage of due to their kindness and disabilities. I just want to make sure they are not being swindled out for their plentiful growth. Thank you in advance for your time and help.

God Bless,

Pam

The broccoli is not harmful -- the part we normally eat is just the unopened flowers -- but it doesn't taste very good. Here's an article on growing broccoli: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/broccoli/bolting-broccoli-growing-broccoli-in-hot-weather.htm
You may have time to help them grow another crop.
