Info on Growing Big Onions

Question

I will be growing onions in 50-gal plastic barrels cut in 1/2 – no weeds that way. I am starting with Walla Walla seeds. Now onions are up about 4 in. but will be putting in Candy in Dec. and Big Daddy in March. Can you send any or all info on growing big ones? I live in Auburn, Calif.
