Indoor orchid

Question

I was given this recently and it lives in my kitchen. It appears healthy I am just wondering if it needs trimming or will it just keep getting taller? I have never had an orchid before.

It will take a very long time to get tall, but it will keep stacking leaves on top of each other. They should remain pretty short as long as they are getting proper lighting. It needs to be bright, but not in direct sun. After the blooms fade, they will fall off. You should leave this stem, as they can bloom again under the correct conditions.
