Q.In The Water Plants That Tolerate Chlorine
Hello and first of all, thank you for this very valuable service of answering questions that might not be easily answered. My situation is somewhat odd in that we have a Koi Pond (but we no longer keep fish in the pond). After trying just about every recommended “pond friendly” product to keep the pond clean and clear without algae, I finally tried using Clorox since we no longer and any fish and the pump was being worked on. To my surprise (and to the horror of many, I assume), the Clorox works the BEST! I was also surprised to find that it did not seem to have any effect on my plants that are in or around the pond. My pond is 1,800 gallons and I have be dumping in about two gallons of Clorox every few weeks. I have also tried Pool Shock with the same results. So, if you don’t mind answering a question from a “Conventional Water Gardens Practices Heathen”, would you please tell me what plants might tolerate this practice? I currently have some small bamboo, some grasses and two types of other large leaf plants who’s names escape me. The bottom line is that I would like to add some more plants and would really appreciate it if you would share your knowledge regarding the plant that are likely to do well in this circumstance. I do not expect that you can guarantee anything… I’m just looking for some guidance as to what might work. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
