How can I keep the circular beds free from weeds As we’re both elderly is bark the best way to go ?

Yes, 2 to 3 inches of bark will help keep the weeds under control. You also can use a sprinkle-on product that prevents weed seeds from sprouting. Just sprinkle it on top of the mulch.

While bark is recommended because it degrades over time and will enrich the soil, since you want low maintenance and have an established garden, you could mulch with pebbles.
