Zone M4J 1R9 | Anonymous added on July 3, 2021 | Answered

The grass and leaves of the hostas under the tree is covered with a glossy sticky substance, while there are a white patches on the branches. Sorry I do not have a cell phone to take a photo. The tree looks healthy and had lots of large blooms earlier. The leaves looks very healthy.

The white patches could be insects like aphids, scale or mealybugs. If you cannot take close up pictures then put a sample in a sealed, transparent plastic bag and take it to your local garden center for identification. The glossy, sticky substance could be honeydew (excrement) from the insects.
