Q.transplanting butterfly bushes

Zone Texas hill countrt | Bweaver added on August 26, 2015 | Answered

I had to transplant all four butterfly bushes. They were 3 yrs old. Transplanted a 4 ft one in August. It’s super hot! Has some new blooms still on it. Should I prune now? Any tips other than lots of water?

August heat is a tough time for to move the plants, but water will be the key to helping them to become established and reduce the stress.

Add 2 to 3 inches of hardwood mulch to help with moisture retention.

I would wait until the plants die down on their own. This will help feed the roots to store energy for the winter.
