Q.I Am Looking For A Tree That Will Thrive In Clay Poorly Drained Soil In The Chicago Area

Zone Chicago zone 6 | Anonymous added on January 16, 2021 | Answered

I just lost a majestic blue spruce tree when a rainstorm, followed by extremely strong winds, uprooted the tree. Beneath the tree was a pond of water, which explains why the roots were not held in place by the soil. Is there a beautiful tree to take its place that will tolerat/thrive in wet soil and not get uprooted in a storm?

Here is an article with suggestions that should help. I particularly like bald cypress. Their leaves look like feathery conifers but are deciduous.
