This depends on the type of hydrangea that you have. Different cultivars require pruning at different times. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/hydrangea/prune-hydrangea-bushes-hydrangea-pruning-instructions.htm

This depends on what type of hydrangea you have. If you don't still have the plant tag, you can search internet images for hydrangeas or try this website for hydrangea ID: https://plantaddicts.com/types-of-hydrangeas/
Once you know the variety, go here, https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/hydrangea/prune-hydrangea-bushes-hydrangea-pruning-instructions.htm
If you end up mystified, don't prune this year. Next year you'll be able to tell if the hydrangea blooms on new wood or last years wood. Warning: hydrangea branches may look dead but still be OK so proceed with caution when pruning if it blooms on old wood.
