How to preserve vegetables from insects?

Vegetables are usually attacked by insects when it ripens. What are the methods to preserve vegetables from harmful attacks?

You may spray with Neem oil, as this will make them undesirable to insects. It isn't harmful to you, but you will want to wash them off really well, as it will taste horrible if not.
