Q.How To Grow Good Ulluco?

Zone 25414 | Anonymous added on February 19, 2023 | Answered

How should I prepare the soil? I’m in Zone 6b, and have some shady spots that might not get as hot in the summer. I assume I should try it there since we do get 90+ degree days–one never knows just how many in a row–from July to September.

You can try it, of course, but it doesn't tolerate heat. Anything consistent over 80 degrees F will kill it or send it into dormancy. But it needs full sun to produce properly. It does best in the Northwest U.S. or coastal California.

It prefers poor soils and cool weather. Here is a blog post we have about it, plus a couple of other sources.
