Q.How To Get Height Growing An Eastern White Pine Angel Falls

Zone Deer Park, WA 99006 | Anonymous added on May 7, 2022 | Answered

I bought a very thinned out Angel Falls Pine and now that it’s in place I’d like to encourage it to grow a bit higher. There are growths that look like narrow “candles”. Will those add height to the tree or are they cones? Is it ok to prune some of the less healthy needles from the bottom? I’d like to encourage the tree to fill out a bit. I’d very much appreciate any help or advice you can give me! Sincerely,

This cultivar will top out at 5 to 10 feet after 10 years. It is slow growing but is a denser shrub than the Pinus strubus 'Pendula.' Yours has already "knuckled" under so it will only get a little taller from the candles, which are new growth tips. These articles should help:
