Q.How Should Jasmine Be Pruned?
This is a potted Jasmine – marked “Jasmine Belle of India” by the Whole Foods store where I bought it in the autumn. It has spent the winter near a north-facing window and has become leggy – branches extending about 24-30” from its 8” pot. No flower buds are visible yet (there were some blooms when the plant was purchased). Assuming I should cut back these extravagant stalks, how much. Thanks.

I would wait till late spring then cut it back by 1/3 to 1/2 and train it on a support. Also, it will need a sunnier window for spring thru fall. It is the jasminum sambac variety and grows to 4 to 5 feet indoors. Outdoors it is a sprawling shrub (in zones 9-11). You can summer outside in full sun to part shade and bring indoors before last frost.
