Q.How Long Does It Take For A Lilac Cutting To Develop Roots?
Have a lilac bush that was invaded by borers. Unsuccessfully tried to treat/kill borers. Am now trying to propagate from lilac cutting. Took new growth from plant (cut on diagonal), dipped cutting in rooting hormone and planted in potting soil. Cutting has been in peat pot for 6 days, watered each day keeping soil moist. Was wondering if it has had time to establish roots. When and how should cutting been transplanted. Thanks in advance for your help!

It will root faster if you cover it in plastic, such as a quart or gallon size storage bag. That will create a humid environment for it. You will know when it has rooted because you will see new growth. Also, if you tug lightly on a stem, it won't lift out. It can take up to a month for shrubs to root.
