How Do I Transplant A Baby From Seed Lilac To A Pot For A Friend

A lilac grew from seed. Its behind the garage and about a foot high. A friend asked if I could give her the plant. Its July here and hot. The roots meet up to cement on one side and a neighbors garden on the other. What is the best way to dig it up and when and, then what? how big a pot can I put it it to nurse it out of shock and get it to her to plant?
