How can I tell when white acorn squash is ripe?

I’ve never had white acorn squash. . . . When I planted the plants were marked yellow squash 🙁

When most of the squash takes on a yellowish-whitish appearance (as opposed to a greenish-whitish appearance), then they are ripe.
